Desegregation bezeichnet die Aufhebung von Segregation, insbesondere der sogenannten „Rassentrennung“.

Desegregation war eines der zentralen Ziele des "Civil Right Movements" (d. "Bürgerrechtsbewegung) in den USA, welche für eine Gleichstellung der Afroamerikaner kämpfte. Ihren Höhepunkt erreichte diese Bewegung in den 1950er-60er Jahren und endete de facto mit dem Civil Rights Act (1968).

Ein weiterer bekannter Fall war die Apartheid in Südafrika, welche bis 1994 und den ersten rassenfreien Wahlen galt.cite-ref-1[1]

Desegregation wurde in den Vereinigten Staaten vor allem in Militär und Schule thematisiert. In der Republik Südafrika spielt Desegregation auch in der Stadtentwicklung eine wichtige Rolle.
